Pelikan Caelum L.E.

Each planet in our system is represented in the order they orbit on the front of the Caelum and, although not possible, some effort has been made to give them their relative sizes. Because the metal on this pen is identified as 925 silver and appears to be gold, we assume this metal is vermeil. The barrel is painted in cosmos blue with the planets predominant and fainter stars visible in the background.

The nine planets are represented down the front of the barrel. On the back, they are named in the order they orbit our star. The four-start threads of the cap allow the engraved panels to align properly in one of four positions.

According to Pelikan's brochure which accompanies this pen, "Caelum" translates in English as "The Heavens," not to be confused with the Southern Hemisphere constellation by the same name meaning The Sculptor's Chisel. The design and detail of this pen represent the solar system with the Sun symbolically residing on the crown of the cap and sending its rays down its sides.

Just barely seen in this image are the "rays" of the sun as they spill over the crown of the cap and descend toward the planets.

This is an M1000 size pen and therefore any M1000 nib unit will fit. We have a full range of these nib units available even if you would like a point other than Fine, Medium, or Broad.

This pen comes in a square highly-polished black resin display case with a clear dome which arches above the pen. The dome is imprinted with the named nine planets along with their orbits. A small plaque with the limited edition number completes the package.

This pen is limited to an edition of 580. The number comes from the average distance at which the inner most planet, Mercury, orbits the sun, 58 million kilometers.

This pen tips the scales at 80 grams, one of the heaviest pens we have seen from Pelikan.

This pen is no longer available from the distributor. The entire package, including its foam lined outer box, weighs 6lbs.

Retail price is $2,700.
