OMAS Solaia Wine L.E. Fountain Pen

OMAS pens have had a long relationship with wines and spirits. The Charles Krug pen, the Lafite de Rothschild pen, and now this pen, also using a combination of barrel oak and sterling silver, make up a triumvirate of fountain pens. A good reason for this is tactile: oak is lovely in the hand with a textured warm surface. A second reason is tradition.
Confirming its passion for the world of wine, the OMAS Solaia is dedicated to the Italian wine tradition of Marchesi Antinori vineyards, which trace their history back to 1358. Each pen is made from the aged oak of the Marchesi Antinori barrels.
Elegant engravings on solid sterling silver recall the world of this noble wine: the family coat of arms and a grapevine on the cap, and the rhombus pattern of the Antinori shield on the knob. Enameled rings in orange and green represent the colors of the historical Solaia label. This wine is produced in the Tignanello Estate in Tuscany. Solaia was the first Italian wine elected “Wine of the Year” by Wine Spectator and continues high scores in worldwide markets. OMAS chose the number 1978 as the total number of this limited edition: 1,200 fountain pens and 778 rollerballs.

The fountain pen offers a rhodium-plated 18K gold nib. The pen is cartridge/converter fill.

The pen seen at the left is a prototype with the edition number 0000/1200

The presentation box is inspired by the Solaia wine packaging and is beautifully adapted to cradle this fountain pen instead of a bottle of wine.
