OMAS
L' Ingegno Scrittorio Di Leonardo
Limited Edition
|
 |
The drawings and designs of Leonardo da Vinci inspired this homage to
the Italian Renaissance. Leonardo is known as a man of mystery, and this pen has
that same air of mystery. |
|
|
At first glance, your eye is drawn to the amber cabochon on the knob
end and the wonderful engraved patterns. Among fountain pens, it stands out, evoking
the spirit of another era. This curious instrument could be used for a variety
of functions; a holy water sprinkler; a container for precious fragrances, rare
bits of scripture, or a very sharp blade. It is the sort of item that the people
at airport security pounce on, questioning its use. When you first grasp
this pen, it is not apparent how it opens, where the nib is, or how it fills.
One would not assume it actually is a fully functional piston filler with a large
ink capacity, but at 5 1/2" long, capped, with a barrel diameter of 7/16",
that's exactly what it is. Different from most fountain pens, however, the cap
cannot be posted. |
| |
 |
The overall look of this pen can be seen in Leonardo's
Codex Atlantic us, where he made drawings of several writing instruments. The
engraving on the cap and barrel are inspired by the Da Vinci knot pattern seen
in Leonardo's painting, "Lady with an Ermine". |
|
The pattern engraved into the barrel and cap catches light, shimmering
as the pen is rotated. |
Despite the fact it is solid sterling silver, The Ingegno Scrittorio weighs
a modest 45.2 grams. |
|
The small snug fitting screw on the cap is only slightly
wider than the barrel. This pen was made in an edition of 1000. We have acquired
a few of these pens, but cannot guarantee that we will have them for long. |
|
|
| |
A machined ebonite (hard rubber) feed fits tightly under
the smooth flowing nib. The pattern on the top end of the cap is based
on another of Leonardo's linear explorations. |
|
|
Without a clip, this is probably
not a great pocket pen. However, it sits beautifully on the surface of a desk,
waiting to be used as your instrument of personal expression. These new old
stock fountain pens come with a lovely oak presentation box and all the papers. Available
with Medium nibs only.

Retail $1500 (in 1996) SOLD
The Ingegno Scrittorio is also available in gold. This was
a smaller edition of only 73 pieces, and retail $6050.00 - SOLD

(6/2/06) "Hi
Pat: Wow, what a beautiful and unique piece of work! The
design is quite fascinating. Im glad OMAS took the design from da Vincis
drawings pretty straightforward and didnt mess it up with a pocket clip
or worry about posting the cap. The
engraving is very well executed. Im glad I was not the person who had to
program the pattern into the engraving machine. :~) Truly
a great addition to my collection. Thanks
again, Mark Baran" (11/03/05) "Pat, The
Eagle has landed! The three pens arrived this morning, and of course, to say I
was satisfied would be a terrific understatement.... I wonder if the reason I
love the Omas L'Ingegno Scrittorio Di Leonardo L.E. so much (besides the fact
that its such a beautiful writer, of course) is because it really does have the
look and feel of a ritual object-- a sceptre for the waving of incense or something
like that. As a rabbi, I always felt that we had rather uninteresting uniforms
and equipment compared to our colleagues of other faiths, especially our Catholic
brothers and sisters. I think this pen will help me compensate a bit. Its magnificent,
and I've already waved it around my head a few times with great pleasure.... Thanks
for everything, Alan Lew" (10/24/05) |
