Long anticipated and years in the making, the new book Fountain Pens of Japan by Andreas Lambrou and Masamichi Sunami has now arrived. Click here for details...
In
keeping with its trend toward clean and simple lines, OMAS has redesigned the Bologna
series. They have, we are happy to report, kept the piston filler on this pen.
The red is lovely and warm with the cool contrast of the high-tech trim. It is a stunning example
of a profoundly subtle celluloid material. It is the same material as was used in the OMAS classic style Celluloid Scarlet fountain pen (no longer available). The color is also much like the Eversharp
Doric Morocco of the mid 1930's (Morocco was a commonly used name for a burgundy-colored briefcase of that time period).
The shape of this pen closed is smooth
and tapered with just the right amount of "belly" to the curves. Notice
how both the cap and barrel "turn" at about 1/3 the distance from the
band. This gives the shape just the right balance.
The
simple trim of the clip, cap, and barrel bands give
this pen the understated authority of master design.
With
a metal gripping section, most of the weight of this pen is toward the nib, where
it balances well in the hand.
Like
the Sheaffer's white dot and the Montblanc star, both dating back to the 1920's,
the "O" will become OMAS's signature logo.
This
pen comes with the "Colonnade" nib in solid 14K gold. Even though this
nib is somewhat flexible now, we can customize it for even
greater flexibility. This pen is available from us in Fine and Medium.
