Namiki Yukari Royale Snowy Egret |
| In April 2008, this pen will be discontinued by Pilot-Namiki. |
|
|
| The Snowy Egret design is the Fall
2004 entry into the Royale series. Willows surround the Egret in this riparian
environment. |
| |
| This is a full sized (5 7/8" capped)
pen, with a superior cartridge - converter filling system. The Snowy Egret
design incorporates two different Maki-e techniques, |
|
| | |
togidashi-maki-e (burnished Maki-e) and taka-maki-e (raised
Maki-e). Togidashi-maki-e is a method in which guilded patterns are dried, recoated
with Urushi, and finally burnished to a high sheen using charcoal. This style
of Maki-e dates to the 7th century. |
|
The Taka-maki-e method is a Maki-e applied on patterns in raised relief and dates
to the 12th century. Gold dust is carefully applied to the surfaces in the appropriate
places and to the proper density. |
|
|
|
| Note the application of
gold dust on the clip as well as the cap.
The nib is available in only Medium and Broad.. The Namiki Medium is finer than European Medium points. |
| Note the use of space in the upper
left image. This space unifies the design, allowing the eye to move between figure
and ground without interruption. This transition is aided further by the gold
dust. |
The box
includes a bottle of Namiki ink, the guarantee card, a certificate of authenticity
and a card with a signature and calligraphy showing the same characters as we
see here to the right. The artists name is Seiki Chida.
