Yukari Cherry Blossom

With hand inlaid abalone shell and hand-applied gold flakes, each Yukari Cherry Blossom is unique although each follows an established pattern. The petal forms in irridescent pinks, lavender, turquoise and blue are scattered among clouds and streams of gold dust and flakes. The maki-e technique is exquisitely realized here. At 5 5/8" long, capped, this pen is a lovely handful.

The artisan signs each pen at the lower end of the barrel (detail above).

In the cap detail at left, notice how the abalone blossom under the clip is reflected in the highly polished ball.

The 18K single-tone nib is available in Fine, Medium or Broad. The filling system uses either a reasonably large-capacity pump converter, which comes in the pen, or cartridges (one included). The presentation box is simple but elegant, ensconsing the pen and a bottle of ink in plush wine colored velvet.

Retail price is $2,000 Our price is $1,600
