Namiki Yukari
Chrysanthemum Dew
Fountain Pen
From ancient times in Japan, the shape of the Chrysanthemum flower has been likened to the sun, and regarded as a symbol driving away evil spirits. The flower is also depicted in the Japanese royal emblem, with the stylized chrysanthemum blossom used as an imperial symbol, and as crests for recognition.
In addition, ancient Asian folklore has it that drinking the fresh dew collected from Chrysanthemums helps to lengthen one’s life. The message is that paying attention to such details is good for the spirit. Thus, its blossoms have come to symbolise longevity and good fortune in the Japanese culture.
Using the famed Togidashi (burnishing) Maki-e technique, the fountain pen showcases a vivid and elegant design with fine lines and subtle color graduations that make it life-like. Achieving this artistic workmanship is a tedious feat as it requires the most experienced and sensitive artisans to create the perfect imagery of the desired motif.
This Namiki design portrays the Chrysanthemum in full bloom. It is decorated with gold dust and gold flakes, silver and mother-of-pearl, creating the picturesque imagery of fresh Chrysanthemum flowers floating down stream.
Note the range of materials and techniques seen in the details above.
This pen is filled from the ink bottle with what we believe is the largest capacity inverter on the market today. It also accepts standard Pilot/Namiki cartridges.
The clip is solid 18K gold along with the nib, available only in Medium. We can customize this to a fine point by reshaping or to a broad point by re-tipping. We can also create a fine stub, italic and oblique points on this nib.
