This is the Portable Yakou Maki-e "Hagi" (bush clover) design created using the Yakou Maki-e technique. This motif is raised bringing out the color around the edges of the leaves and flowers. Using the same technique as "Tame-sukashi", the contrast of color on the motif and on the pen's edges will develop more over time giving the "shu" (red) color greater brightness. The bush clover motif is built up with black Urushi over the shu, giving greater contrast and brightness to the design. |
