The Sumi finish on this evocative pen, created via a traditional technique involving the application of multiple layers of carbon ink, lends a softness to the grip. After piling up a barrel by charcoal (sumi), Nakaya heaps up the surface to look like old wood and they have set ''a skull'' as trim.
The matte texture of the sumi surface is inviting to the touch - the lightest grip will guide this pen easily across paper. This version is fitted with a ruthenium nib and clip ($40 additional), which is a smokier, darker version of rhodium plating and adds to the air of Gothic mystery evoked by this design.
The
Nakaya nib, imprinted Nakata, the family name of the manufacturer, is made of solid
14K gold.
Each of these nibs is suitable for our customization to extra
flexible. The medium and broad tips can be customized by us into cursive italic,
