Nakaya Piccolo Shu (Red) Unpolished

The matte surface on the Shu (red) fountain pen reveals an entirely different color than the polished version. This one takes on a soft sheen as seen in the reflections below. Notice how much sharper the reflections are in the top two pens. It is also soft to the touch.

Nakaya Piccolo Cigar Unpolished Shu Fountain Pen
This pen is available as a Cigar (with out clip), and a Writer (with clip) below.
This Nakaya fountain pen is made of hard rubber and coated with Urushi, a material made from the sap of a Japanese lacquer tree. The process of collecting the Urushi (sap) and applying many layers of lacquer to this fountain pen takes three months to complete.
This finish reveals a level of craftsmanship and attention that we have only seen in the finest pens. Notice how the red color varies as it rounds the edge of the cap and barrel below.
A rhodium (shiny) or Ruthenium (flat) plated nib and clip are also available for this and any other of the Nakaya fountain pen.

The Maki-e painted converters are available for an additional $21.

The Nakaya nib, imprinted Nakata, the family name of the manufacturer is made of solid 14K gold.

Each of these nibs is suitable for our customization to extra flexible (an additional $65 charge). The medium, broad and extra broad tip can be customized into a cursive italic, stub or oblique point (an additional $55 for these customizations).

The price with or with out clip $550.00

Seen below are three "Piccolo" "Writer" Nakaya pens shown here for color comparison.
The polished orange (Araishu) is on the top. The polished Shu (red), at the middle, is a warmer color compared to its unpolished Shu in the bottom.

Testimonial...Dec 6th, 2011
Oh. My....

Hi, John.

The red Piccolo has just arrived.

It. Is. Stunning.

I mean, I knew it would be a beautiful pen, but somehow, this surpasses my expectations. The color is amazing. And the kanji is just... such a perfect mark; it just makes it. Understated and perfect.

I feel as if I'm whispering....

I don't know what ink.... It has to be the perfect ink. No, it doesn't have to be perfect, because I can change it if the ink causes a disturbance in the pen's Zen, hahaha. I just... it's just so beautiful!

Okay. I'll try the Noodler's Walnut Mix. Hold on....
...

[Minutes passing.]

John.

It's perfect!

I couldn't be more pleased!

WOW!

Wow. So beautiful and perfect. Thank you!

This unpolished shu Piccolo... I can't stop looking at it. I'll admit that I wasn't sure if I was going to like the red -- there's such variation -- and this shade dilates my pupils, to get more of it into my eyes. Nakaya did a superb job with this color!

Thank you! And thanks to Jonella!

I hope your day is as happy as mine!

Best,
Lisa
