Piccolo Fountain Pen
Midori (Dark Green)

The Piccolo is the shortest of the Nakaya urushi pens. The name Piccolo comes from the smallest of the woodwind instruments. Shown here is the Piccolo Cigar (No Clip) in Midori (dark green).
This is the Piccolo Writer (With Clip) in Midori (dark green).
This Midori green evokes for John a memory of his first sports car, a 1952 MG TD.  Even though it is half a world away the English racing green on the curved fenders of that two-seater reminds him of the Midori color.

Coated in many layers of urushi resin, this pen has is a lustrous deep black. It is also available in reddish red dark, black red dark and other finishes. Traditionally, Japanese people have admired pines or evergreens as the symbol of the vitality of plants as well as immortality. If you are familiar with the RGB color system, this pen's color is very close to R30, G92, B22.
It is just big enough to fit easily in a large hand without posting the cap. (The cap does fit on the back of the barrel, though we do not recommend posting.)

This simple elegant shape with its turned tapered pyramidal cap and smooth transition between the cap and barrel, is an exercise in spare design.

This pen is also available with a pocket clip and is known as the "Writer".

Pens which have a colored urushi lacquer finish such as "Arai-shu" and "Midori" will become even more brilliant as the urushi itself becomes more translucent with the passage of time. So the color of the pen at the time you receive it will change and improve.

At 24.5 grams without ink this is pen is not heavy and not light. The balance is just right

We can provide a Platinum converter used to fill this pen with ink in either the simple form or the painted "goldfish" design for an additional $21.
