Nakaya Piccolo Housoge
Kikyo Platinum Fountain Pen

The Piccolo is the one of the shortest of the Nakaya urushi pens. The name Piccolo comes from the smallest of the woodwind instruments.

Shown here with two-tone nib, this pen makes an elegant statement. The base color is "Kikyo" and the line is platinum, made from platinum dust mixed with transparent lacquer. The artist engraves this motif using the Wajima "Chinkin" technique on the blue lacquer surface.

This pen is just big enough to fit easily in a large hand without posting the cap (the cap does fit on the back of the barrel, though we do not recommend posting).

This simple, elegant shape, with its turned tapered pyramidal cap and smooth transition between cap and barrel, is an exercise in spare design.

This pen is also available with a pocket clip in the"Writer" model.

The word "Housoge" has the sense of a "flower in the imagination" or a blossom in paradise, a concept dating from the Chinese Tang Dynasty and Japanese Tenpyo period.

At 24.5 grams without ink this is pen is not heavy and not light. The balance is just right

The Maki-e painted converters are available for an additional $21.

The Nakaya nib carries the Nakata imprint, the family name of the manufacturer, and is made of solid 14K gold. Each of these nibs is suitable for our customization to extra flexible. The medium and broad tips can be customized by us into cursive italic, stub, or oblique points.

See our Nakaya nibs page for more details.

Seen above, this fountain pen has the filled platinum engraving on the gripping section as well as the cap and barrel. Notice the excellent workmanship.

The heavy decorative rice paper, simple solid softwood shipping box, and fabric "kimono" pouch make a lovely presentation for these Nakaya urushi pens. Sensible and elegant packaging has long been a hallmark of the Nakaya brand.
