Nakaya Piccolo Ao Gai Zukushi ( blue raden mosaic)
Composed of a myriad of abalone chips embedded on the surface of this Piccolo pen, this one is truly captivating.
The random shaped and evenly spaced chips reflect light in different directions and different colors. When this pen is turned in the fingers each surface changes color and brightness. The use of embedded abalone on fountain pens was first seen in the Sheaffer's pen celluloid pens from around 1935. Before that mother-of-pearl was employed in slab sided Waterman's as well as a number of early 20th century pens.

The Nakaya nib, imprinted Nakata, the family name of the manufacturer is made of solid 14K gold, our favorite alloy for pen nibs (seen here with a two-tone medium soft nib).

Each of these nibs is suitable for our customization to extra flexible (an additional $65 charge). The medium, broad and extra broad tip can be customized into a cursive italic, stub or oblique point (an additional $55 for these customizations).

This pen requires many hours of careful hand work. The results on this Piccolo model are both delicate and astounding.

$3500.00

The Maki-e painted converters are available for an additional $21.
