This ink cleaner is made to fit Nakaya and Platinum fountain pens and fits most Sailor brand models as well. Offered in the kit is a pliable polyethylene squeeze bulb that fits onto the section the way a converter fits, as well as a five packs of liquid cleaning solution. Notice that the pictures below show a transparent gripping section, but this kit can also be used on all Nakaya hard rubber sections.
Platinum has introduced the Fountain Pen Ink Cleaner Kit for European Pens. The nozzle on the end of the cleaning tool is smaller in diameter than the Japanese Ink Cleaner Kit. They are the same in price: $15.00
Unscrew the nib unit and gripping section from barrel and remove the cartridge or converter.
Push the squeeze bulb onto the back of the section.
Immerse the nib unit in a glass of cool water. Then squeeze the bulb five times to flush water through or until the water is not removing any more ink.
In another small glass of tap water, about half a cup, pour the contents of one of the packets of cleaning solution. This will produce approximately a 10-fold diluted cleaning solution.
This process may save your pen trips to the repair shop. Many pen problems occur because of dried ink in the section and feed. This should solve that problem.
Soak overnight in the cleaning solution. (Standard dye ink can be removed in about 3 hours.)
Flush the nib and section again in fresh water by pumping several times.
Remove the bulb and rinse under fresh running water. Wipe dry with a soft cloth. (we find laundered cotton fabric to be the best wipes.)
Install a clean cartridge or converter into your pen. Happy writing.
The fine print:
On contact with the eyes, irrigate the eyes immediately and seek medical advice. Some skin may be sensitive to the solution so, in case of contact, please wash the solution away with plenty of water. Avoid the direct rays of the sun. Keep out of the reach of children.
