Long Fountain Pen
Midori (Green)
If simplicity is the highest form of elegance, this is it. As unadorned as this pen is, it achieves greatness by virtue of its materials, surface and color. Shown here is the Long Cigar (No Clip) fountain pen in Midori (Green). This is the perfect balance of green. It stands half way between blue and yellow, with the right amount of cool and the right amount of warm.
The Urushi tradition is historic and profound in Japan, where lacquer ware has adorned utilitarian objects for centuries. This technique, though painstaking, gives this fountain pens its deep lustrous sheen and richness of color.

This Nakaya fountain pen is made of hard rubber and coated with Urushi, a material made from the sap of a Japanese lacquer tree. The process of collecting the Urushi (sap) and applying many layers of lacquer to this fountain pen takes three months to complete.
This is not a pen that you would carry in your pocket unless you use the Nakaya single pen holder. Besides being clipless, at six and a half inches long, it would extend above the lip of most pockets. At 24.5 grams this fountain pen is beautifully balanced and feels light in the fingers.

These close-ups give a sense of the subtle color sheen that occurs on a new pen.
