Nakaya Long Cigar Ascending Dragon
Aka-Tamenuri
At first glance this pen my appear to be another Long Aka-tamenuri, (the reddish red) but after close examination the image of a golden dragon can be seen through the deep layers of Urushi. |
| This pen is made using the Tame-Sukashi technique, which obscures an under-painting with a urushi lacquer. In time the under-image emerges stronger. In time the dragon painting will be much more prominent. |
| The fascinating feature of this pen is that the image literally "ascends" with use as the image of the dragon comes up as the pen is handled. In this slow process the owner's hand and everyday wear will give this pen the beauty of age. |

The Ascending Dragon comes in Heki-tamenuri as well. The green under tone becomes more obvious in the threads. This color combination is more the "Earth" Dragon. |
