Long anticipated and years in the making, the new book Fountain Pens of Japan by Andreas Lambrou and Masamichi Sunami has now arrived. Click here for details...
Decapod Twist Fountain Pen
Kuro-tamenuri (Black / Dark Red)
The Decapod has already been perhaps the most distinctive pen style developed by Nakaya, and now this new pen literally gives the model an added twist. Shown here is the Decapod Twist in blackish red Kuro-tamenuri.
The torsioned shape allows the dark red Urushi under the black to show through on the edge of each of the ten facets.
Like most Nakaya pens, the Decapod Twist is available either in the clipless "Cigar" version seen here, as well as in the "Writer" model with gold, pink gold, rhodium, or ruthenium clip. Matching plated nibs are available as well.
Functional as well as stylistic, the ten-faceted shape makes this pen less prone to rolling across (or off) a desk than a perfectly cylindrical writing instrument would be. Ordinary pencils have used this design function for decades - it's even more useful in a writing instrument of this value and quality.
At 5 7/8" capped
and weighing 21.5 grams , this pen is a pleasure to hold. Each pen is handcrafted in meticulously exact fashion. The smoothly reliable multi-thread barrel allows the cap and barrel to line up precisely on every other barrel thread.
The Decapod Twist in Kuro-tamenuri can be filled with bottled ink using the provided converter. Nakaya pens can also use Platinum brand ink cartridges. Hand-painted Maki-e converters are also available.
The solid gold 14k Nakaya "Nakata" nib comes in a wide range of tipping sizes: Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad, and Extra Broad, with Fine Soft, Medium Soft, Super Extra Fine, and Music nibs also available. See our Nakaya nibs page for details.
These smooth-writing nibs are also well-suited to customizations including Stub, Cursive Italic, and Left Oblique, as well as the modification for added flex - see our nib customizations page for more information.
Nakaya fountain pens are attractively packaged in a softwood presentation box decorated with calligraphic kanji script. The pen is wrapped in a decorative cloth kimono, and a starter pack of Platinum brand cartridges is also included.
