| This Nakaya fountain pen is made hard rubber and coated with layers of Urushi, a material made from the sap of a Japanese lacquer tree. The process of collecting the Urushi (sap) and applying many layers of lacquer to this fountain pen takes three months to complete. | |

The Urushi tradition is historic and profound in Japan, where lacquer ware has adorned utilitarian objects for centuries. This technique, though painstaking, gives this fountain pen its deep lustrous sheen. Pens which have a colored urushi lacquer finish such as "Arai-shu" and "Midori" will become even more brilliant as the urushi itself becomes more translucent with the passage of time. So the color of the pen at the time you receive it will change and only improve. |
