Decapod Writer (With Clip) Fountain Pen
Heki-tamenuri (Brown-Green)
Heki-tamenuri refers to the color of this pen. The Decapod is the shape. This name means ten feet or ten facets. The "Writer" model includes a clip. (The "Cigar" model means without clip.)
The facets of this fountain pen follow from end to end in a long smooth curve. It is a shape that can be described by pure geometry except that it is subtly more complex. In the end it is the eye that this shape most satisfies.
The ten sided shape has another function. Because it is not round in cross section it is not likely to roll off a desk. The yellow pencil evolved from a cylinder shape to be a faceted. The Decapod gives facets an entire new meaning. At 5 7/8" capped and weighing 18.5 grams dry this pen is a pleasure to hold.
This urushi application appears to glow from within. The darker outer color "pulls back" from edges leaving an impression of inner light. This occurs on every edge of this pen, so the faceted models exhibit many opportunities for this effect. The urushi lacquer acts something like a ceramic glaze, emphasizing the form.
Notice how the ends of this pen are beveled to finish the facets. Not only does this trim the cap and barrel end it provides a rounder edge, more likely to wear evenly.

We provide a Platinum converter used to fill this pen with ink in either the simple form or the painted "goldfish" design for an additional $25.
