Nakaya Celluloid Tortoiseshell Fountain Pen
Celluloid fountain pens date back to the early 1920's in the United States. Only a very few companies make them today because they require individual machining and finishing (unlike the injection molded pens that most companies make). The material is expensive and the results are glorious, especially in a vintage pattern such as tortoiseshell.
This pen shows a transparency and richness typical of this celluloid.
The use of tortoiseshell patterning dates back centuries, to the era when actual tortoiseshells were used for luxury items such as buttons, dip pens, and cuff links. Thankfully for the tortoises, this is no longer necessary.

The Nakaya name along with the words "Fountain Pen Japan" are engraved around the band.

The Nakaya nib, imprinted Nakata, the family name of the manufacturer, is made of solid 14K gold.

The Maki-e painted converters are available for an additional $21.

Each of these nibs is suitable for our customization to extra flexible. The medium and broad tip can be customized by us into cursive italic, stub or oblique points.

See below for the basic tip sizes of the Nakaya nibs as reported off of their web site.
