Nakaya Long Aka-Tamenuri
17mm Diameter Fountain Pen
Currently available as a special order item only, any Nakaya Long pen can also be ordered in the larger 17mm size. The standard size Long pen has a diameter of 15mm. Above is the Long Cigar in Aka-tamenuri, seen in both the 17mm and standard 15mm sizes.
As always, this Nakaya pen body is made from hand-turned ebonite hard rubber which is then layered with Urushi lacquer in the Wajima region of Japan. Ebonite hard rubber is a strong and durable material - vintage fountain pens using this material have lasted for a hundred years and more.
An additional optional add-on, the pen seen here also has a special gripping section that has been created using Ishime-Kanshitsu stone finsh. This adds an additional $100 to the cost of this pen.
The solid gold 14k Nakaya "Nakata" nib comes in a wide range of tipping sizes: Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad, and Extra Broad, with Fine Soft, Medium Soft, Super Extra Fine, and Music nibs also available. See our Nakaya nibs page for details.
These smooth-writing nibs are well-suited to customizations including Stub, Cursive Italic, and Left Oblique, as well as the modification for added flex - see our nib customizations page for more information.
With optional Ishime-Kanshitsu gripping section seen here, $760
Please note that Nakaya special order pens generally require a minimum of four to six months to be produced - to see a list of the Nakaya pens we currently have in stock and ready for immediate shipment, please consult our Nakaya Availability Chart.
Decorative rice paper, a simple solid softwood shipping box decorated with Japanese Kanji script, a starter box of Platinum ink cartridges, and a fabric pen "kimono" are all included with this pen, making it a lovely presentation item. Sensible and elegant packaging has long been a hallmark of the Nakaya brand.
