Pilot-Namiki
Ink |
Pilot-Namiki Bottled Ink |
We have Namiki ink and cartridges for
sale. The traditional bottled Namiki ink comes in Black or Blue. Our
Price: $12.00 per bottle.
Most Pilot and Namiki pens (with the exception of the 823 piston-filler series) take both a
cartridge or a converter. Many of our customers prefer to use the converter at
home or the office. The cartridges
are very convenient for pen users on the go: during air travel, for instance, a new sealed
cartridge can be popped into the back of a pen with no fear of leakage due to
changes in pressure. The cartridges also come in a greater range of colors. |

This article explains the use of carbon black ink for artists. |
For years I have looked for ink that I could draw with in a fountain pen and watercolor over. I tried everything from drawing with regular fountain pen ink and spraying it with varnishes to soaking an ink drawing in water then painting with watercolor, all with unsatisfactory results. Then I heard of Noodler’s “Bulletproof” inks—so I bought some. It was “bulletproof” but NOT waterproof—for me. With a light color wash like yellow it let off a gray tinge. Others have had good results water coloring over Noodler’s but not me. Every time I heard or saw someone using Noodler’s and water coloring over it I would buy a new bottle only to have a gray tinge come off the ink lines. Noodler’s is a great product but was not giving me the result I wanted. I think it is because I use VERY WET nibs so any ink pooling on the surface that does not bond with the cellulose in the paper was being washed off with my brush.
Then I found Platinum Carbon Black. This is a super smooth matte black ink. I put a wet brush over my ink lines and not a tinge of gray! My watercolor washes were bright and pure—yellows bright as the sun! Then I heard of all the problems of pens clogging with PCB! So I stopped using it. Then Richard Binder at a Pen show told me that PCB would be a better ink to use than the ink I was using at the time. Just flush regularly he reminded. I decided to flush whatever pens I had inked every 1st and 15th of the month. I have been doing that for 6-8 months now with no problems. This ink performs beautifully. I use it in my big German piston fillers, love it in my eyedropper pens and never plan to stop using Platinum Carbon Black ink. |

Platinum Fluid Ink Eraser |
Platinum has brought us a most remarkable new product that can be used to erase ink from both paper and cloth.
The process is very easy. First you spread on the red liquid. Next, spread transparent liquid on the red liquid. Spread red liquid one more time and then wipe off the extra liquid with blotting or tissue paper. Presto! After the paper dries, you can write again.
Due to postal regulations we can only ship this item ground.
The price is $12.00/kit (includes blotting papers). |

Sailor
Cartridges |
|
We carry Sailor
Ink Cartridges. Coming 12 to a pack in Black, Blue, Blue Black and Red, these
fit most Sailor Pens (with the exception of the Realo piston-filler). At $6.55 per pack, these convenient cartridges also provide a real bargain.
As far as the Bottled inks below, we have a limited stock of your old favorites still available for a limited time only. Red-Brown is already sold out--act now to stock up on the remaining inks before they are gone for good.
Newly arrived from Sailor is Kiwa-Guro Black Pigment ink. Attractively packaged, it is available at $24 a bottle or $10 for a box of 12 cartridges - this is the only pigment ink we know of available in cartridges.
|
|
We now have the new Sailor inks in their redesigned bottles! At $16.00 for the new bottles and $12.50 per bottle for the remaining old style inks, you now have more Sailor ink choices than ever before. Be sure to specify which ink style you prefer when you place your order. |
|
|
Sailor has re-designed the colors as well as the bottles. The big changes come in the colors seen above. A new bright Red, an earthy Green, two different shades of Blue, and a brand-new Purple are ready for writing. The Black and Blue-Black inks are also available in this new bottle. The interior of the redesigned bottle now includes an interior reservoir to make refilling your pen or converter more convenient. When the bottle's ink supply gets low, just turn the bottle upside down (with the cap on!) and then return it to an upright position. Then unscrew the cap and find ink in the reservoir, ready to be drawn up into your pen. These new style inks are now available for only $16.00 per bottle. |

|
The Yellow-Orange is stunning, and the warm
Green is bright and clear with a hint of yellow. The Blue is a dark ultramarine. The popular Gray ink, particularly prized by artists and calligraphers, is perfect for capturing subtle details and shading. The Blue-Black
and Black
are excellent examples of their hues, and the rich Brown is earthier and
deeper than Pelikan's take on this hue.
The old style inks seen above are only $12.50 per bottle and available in limited numbers only. Return

Sheaffer Ink |
|
Sheaffer Skrip is used by us as our shop ink. The newly designed bottle contains
50 ml of ink
and has a wide base to lessen the danger of tip-overs. It is a
strong and bright Blue. We
use this ink in our shop primarily because it can be washed
off of our hands at the end of the day and is quite reasonable
in price. Bottles get consumed every month. At $8.00 a bottle it is an affordable and reliable ink - we have never seen
it plug a fountain pen. |
| |
While the bottled fountain pen
inks seen on this page can be used in any fountain pen having a
converter, piston-fill, or other reservoir system (that includes
every pen we sell new with the exception of the Sapporo Mini),
cartridge inks fall into two broad categories--international
and proprietary. Pelikan cartridges are international and can
be used in a wide variety of fountain pen brands, including
Bexley, Montegrappa, and Pelikan's own Ductus series.
Aurora, Platinum, Pilot-Namiki,
and Sailor ink cartridges are proprietary, usable only in their
respective pen brands--note that Platinum makes the ink cartridges
used in Nakaya pens. In turn, pens from these manufacturers
can only utilize their own proprietary ink cartridges--with
the exception of Nakaya, which offers an adaptor (available
from us at a nominal cost) allowing their pens to use international
cartridges in addition to the Platinum brand. Still have questions?
Don't hesitate to e-mail us at info@nibs.com or call us at (323) 655-2641. |

Various brands and colors of inks will work differently in fountain pens. We suggest
you try a few and see how you like them with your pen and writing style.
Note
that using cartridges only can result in a clogged feed. We recommend that you
occasionally either fill with the converter or use the converter to clean the
inner workings of your pen.
If you are concerned that a water-based ink used
on an envelope might get wet and run, rub it with candle wax. This will seal
the ink under a transparent layer. |
