Q: What pen do you recommend I, as an artist, start out with?
The Namiki Falcon is slightly flexible and fun to sketch with. It comes from the manufacturer with a fine, medium and broad points (which tend to be finer than European points of the same name.) This pen is handy too because it relies on a high quality converter cartridge ink system and thus travels well. It is a wonderful pen for customization to a finer point and also to stub, italic and oblique points. It can even be made more flexible for those with some skill and practice. (But this makes the nib more fragile.)
Many artists love Pelikan pens as well, because they are not terribly expensive and very reliable. They have nib units that can be changed by the artist.
