Bexley America Artist No. 2 Limited Edition
Featuring Artist: Ray Cover, Master Engraver

"Cardinal" with Sterling Silver
This pen captures the size, style and shape of the elegant writing instruments of the early 1900"s. Ray Cover created the design and meticulously hand engraved the clip, cap band and barrel sleeve for each pen.
This is the Sterling Silver over "Cardinal" cast acrylic model. The cap has a solid cast 10K white gold clip. The Cardinal color has a long tradition with fountain pens beginning with the Wahl Company of Chicago in the 1920's and their highly prized cardinal hard rubber pens.
Ray Cover uses a microscope to get a close-up view of the surface that he is hand engraving. He works on each piece of precious metal on these pens, hand engraving them one-at-a-time. This is remarkable when you consider that most engraving is done today with a computer-guided laser beam. This is truly a bench made pen - the work of a true artist and master engraver. This is the real stuff. Click here for his web site.
This pen is # 07 of 18. It is marked on the back of the clip band.

At an early age, Ray learned the importance of fine craftsmanship from his father, a well know professional knife maker. He studied fine arts, then taught fine arts for 6 years until the demand for his work led him to become a full time engraver. Mr. Cover is known for his fine engraving on knives and guns as well as fishing rods and reels.

Please note that the effect is much softer than it appears on this blow up. The pattern takes on the flow and decoration of thematic bulino style engraving.
Both Artist series pens come with 18k two-tone nibs, hand set by Howard Levy. They are available in Fine, Medium, Broad and Broad Stub. The Stub nib is suitable for customization to all forms of italic points up to 1.15 mm.

This is a piston filling fountain pen that requires a bottle of ink in order to fill. It is filled by twisting the blind cap on the end of the barrel.
Each pen is 51/4" long with the cap on. The barrel is 4 1/4" long not including the nib, and 3/8" wide. The section is 1/4" long. The whole pen weighs 27 grams

Each pen comes in a custom wooden box, hand crafted by wood worker Wally Becker. The material and finishes of the boxes have been selected to complement the finishes of each pen. Click here for his web site.

The American Artist Series #1 pen has already sold out. We imagine that this limited edition #2 pen will go the same way. Only 18 pieces will be made in each of the two colors.
